Individual Counseling

What it is:

I provide counseling to individuals who have been impacted by systems and/or dynamics of harm, violence, and oppression.  Together, we surface and identify the ways in which those dynamics have shaped how they understand themself and how they move through the world.  We explore how they make meaning of their experiences, what their system needs, and how they might connect to their agency.  I also meet with people who know or believe that they may cause harm to others in order to identify sustainable behavior change strategies and accountability structures.

Logistics:
  • Sessions are 55 minutes long;

  • I take a week for planned rest every 5-6 weeks as well as one vacation in the Summer and one in the Winter;

  • I am happy to provide invoices for you to submit to your insurance for reimbursement;

  • I meet using telehealth options and am happy to meet over video or the phone.

Things you might find me say, ask, offer, invite:
  • What shows up in your system as you notice that?

  • What is happening in your system right now?

  • Have I talked to you about [insert psychoeducation about a concept here]...

  • I wonder what might happen if…?

  • What might it be like if…?

  • What are you noticing?

  • What is available or present today?

  • How is that part trying to help you?

  • Where did that part learn that language?

  • What are the societal and community structures that are influencing this?

  • Where might this be coming from?

  • What might you do with this?

  • Have we given that piece enough care and attention or is there anything more?

  • Is there anything in particular that you want to take from today’s session with you?

“One large change that has happened since I started working with Ramsey is that she has taught me to feel my feelings rather than talk around them. Our work has given meaning to the things I am experiencing in my body. She asks me to sit with what I am feeling, experience it, and accept what those feelings and thoughts are doing/have done for me in the past. Some questions she might ask are: where are you feeling this in your body? Does it have a weight, a shape, a movement, a sensation, a taste, a color? When I started working with Ramsey I was unable to answer any of those questions and really describe my feelings—now I can really pinpoint where they are sitting and what their qualities are”
